I can’t call myself a plane spotter, but any time I get a chance to shoot some airshow, or some unusual plane that lands on Zagreb Airport I will take it.
This week at small airport near Cakovec, local aviation club organized airshow after 9 long years. What drawn my attention was flight of Eurofigter Typhoon, for the first time in Croatia. But due to some administration complication that didn’t happened.
That left us at Croatian airshow standard Croatian Airforce MIG 21, Hungarian JAS 39 Gripen and acrobatic group Wings of storm as the main stars. But to tell you the truth I was more impressed with crazy guys Peter Besenyei and Zoltan Veres in their Extra 300 and MXS. When you see a 60 years old guy doing crazy stuff in this aerobatic monoplane you got to be impressed.
I finally had a chance to try Large zone focus on my 1DX MK II and to play with old Canon 2X Extender. Focus zone works great against velar blue sky but I can’t say the same for that old extender paired with my old 70-200 f/2.8. A lot of unfocused photos, probably the worst ratio I ever shot. But 200mm was just to short and on 20MP camera there is not enough “meat” to crop so I had to take risk and get that extra 200mm.
